Today, I am honoured to be sharing with you a very inspirational guest post written by Jenny from ‘Jenny In Neverland’. Jenny is a fantastic book blogger and has even set up her own blog touring business. I hope you enjoy this post, and please head over to Jenny’s blog afterwards here! 🙂
I started blogging in March 2013 and the reason? I was bored. That’s right, there’s no deep, meaningful reason why I started up my blog. I wasn’t overly concerned if anyone read it or if I was going to gain a following. In fact, I didn’t understand where followers came from! I simply came across another book blog, thought it was a good idea and started up my own out of pure boredom. I had previously quit my college course and my job – I was training to be a teaching assistant in a Primary school and was going to college one night a week to learn the theory side of it and then working voluntarily in a school 3 mornings a week to gain experience. I was on my course for a few months and every day I went into work I realised more and more that it wasn’t for me. I just simply was not cut out to deal with 30 odd school children every day. One day I went into work and I snapped at this boy. I can’t remember what he done but it wasn’t anything bad but I really shouted at him and that was the moment I realised it was time to go. I was also suffering from bad anxiety at the time and being stuck doing something I hated only made it worse.
I’ve always loved reading but I didn’t think there was anything I could do about it. Apart from an author, publisher or librarian but I wasn’t cut out to write my own books, I didn’t have the experience or the guts to work in the publishing industry and there was no librarian jobs going in my area. When I came across someone else’s blog I thought it was a lovely idea which led me to start up my own. I was in a pretty low place at the time but reading and reviewing books, even if noone was reading my reviews yet, really helped to pick me up and make me feel like I was doing something worth while again. I had absolutely no idea where I was going with it and it would have been a far off dream for my blog to do as well as it’s doing now. I remember the first review request I got and the first time a big author replied to my tweet (it was Dorothy Koomson!) My love for reading and books just grew and grew even more and I don’t think it’s ever going to stop! It’s amazing what books can do, how they can bring you out of your shell and help you see the light even when you’re in a dark place in your life.
Since that fateful day in March 2013, I have worked hard and tirelessly on my blog. The more I blog, the more I enjoy it and I have made so many fantastic friends and acquaintances through it. I had absolutely no idea the book blogging world existed. It’s like Hogwarts – you can only see it properly if you’re a part of it and I’m so glad I am. Last month, I also launched my own blog touring business. For those that don’t know, a blog tour is a virtual tour of a book which gets featured on various blogs over the course of a day, a week or a fortnight – depending on the type of tour the author wants. Neverland Blog Tours specialises in tours for Fantasy and Paranormal genres (including YA and Romance) because as far as I’m aware, there aren’t many – if any – that do that. Fantasy is one of my favourite genres but unfortunately, I think a few people overlook it and don’t take it as seriously as others. My aim for this project is to try and shed some light on brilliant Fantasy books and help the authors get their work noticed. My first tour is coming up in May, you can find more information about it here: http://jennyinneverland.wordpress.com/2014/04/21/tour-the-star-child-by-stephanie-keyes/
Well, that was my journey into the blogging world and what a journey it’s been! Here’s to many more years of reading, books and fantastic bloggy friends! Thank you to Jenny for having me on her fab blog today!
