“Brow Zings”: My Complete Godsend

I hate my eyebrows. Like, actually hate them.

I always have and unfortunately I didn’t exactly help the situation…

When I was younger I had quiet dark bushy eyebrows. I never had a mono brow, just lots of hair each side that looked pretty scruffy. Obviously it didn’t bother me when I was little, but when I became a teenager it became an issue for me.

I had started comprehensive school and I (the totally un-cool girl) had to compete against the cool girls; Known as “The Plastics”. (Unsure of what I mean? Go and watch Mean Girls! It’s a must-watch movie).

So.. one night I closed my bedroom door and decided to get the tweezers out (which I obviously borrowed from my older sister). It hurt, but it felt great. I plucked and plucked away until I had thin eyebrows just like all the other girls. I loved it! The thing is, I didn’t even realise back then that ‘shape’ mattered. I thought as long as they were thin then I was safe.

Now, lets forward 6 years..  Continue reading

To A Stranger You Pass On The Street

I bumped into a stranger the other day. She stopped and asked me how I was; what I was doing with my life.

It felt awkward. I told her I was working, doing a job I love and I am back home living with my parents after three years away. I asked her the same questions back – “How are you? What are you doing in life?”

She pretty much said the same thing back – “I’m busy working. I have got myself a car to take me there and back each day from my parents house”.

We exchanged smiles for a few moments and stood hovering on our feet awkwardly unsure of what to say next.

After a couple of minutes of awkwardly looking around for something else to say, I wished her well and went on my way. Continue reading

Life in a fish bowl

I feel like I am in a fish bowl.. Not literally squashed in a tiny little bowl, but sat here with everybody stopping to look at me.. I’m sure you can understand what I mean when I come around to explaining it…

I’m sat in work at the moment. It’s a pretty quiet day today so I thought I would bring in my notebook and get writing whilst it’s quiet. Our shop is on the corner of a little arcade and there is a constant flow of people walking past day in day out having a nose. Don’t get me wrong, the location is 100% perfect for business. We get so many customers just from walking past and seeing us as well as word of mouth. Continue reading

Sunday Funday Challenge #3

Welcome to the third ‘Sunday Funday Challenge!’

For those of you unaware, I have set up this challenge myself in order to help you find new blogs that you will love, and to help promote your own blog posts to a different audience.

Here’s how it works:

1) Every Sunday I will post a blog post entitled ‘Sunday Funday Challenge’.

2) Every Sunday, you pick one blog post of your choice from your own blog, which you want to share with people. Copy and paste the URL into the comments section below in order to share it with other Sunday Funday participants.

3) Each Sunday, pick a different post from the week before, which you want to share.

It’s as simple as that!

If you have a Twitter account, share the challenge with your followers and use the hashtag #SundayFundayChallenge – The more the merrier and all bloggers are welcome!

So, let’s get started shall we?

Here is my post I’m going to share with you today – ‘The Mistake Which Changed My Life…’

Now, copy and paste a post of your own into the ‘comments’ section below, check out the posts shared by other bloggers and most of all have fun!! 🙂

If you took part last week, remember to share a different post with us this week!

I look forward to reading your posts!

‘Can You Keep A Secret?’ by Sophie Kinsella: Book Review

This was the first book of Sophie Kinsella’s that I had read, and I was not in any way disappointed. I absolutely loved this book, and after reading a couple of pages I was completely hooked.

What would you do if you accidently spilt all of your juicy (or, not so juicy) secrets to a random man on a plane, and then it turns out that he was actually your boss?

The book follows the story of Emma Corrigan – a typical young woman. Although Emma is desperate to get a promotion and for her parents to be proud of her, she is pretty satisfied with her life. She has a gorgeous long term boyfriend, Connor, and she lives with her best friend of twenty one years, Lissy. However, on the return home from a business trip, Emma experiences an extremely turbulent plane journey which was about to change her life. can_you_keep_a_secret_UK

To keep her mind off the journey, Emma can’t help but spill all of her secrets to the handsome, American business man sitting next to her. Every little secret she had – from lying about her grades on her CV, to finding G-strings unbelievably uncomfortable – rushed out of her mouth and into the ears of this stranger.

Once the plane had landed, Emma was feeling rather embarrassed, but what did that matter? It’s not like she would ever see this man again…

Well, at least that is what she thought. Emma was absolutely mortified when this handsome man, Jack, turns up at her work place. It turns out, he wasn’t a stranger at all… he was the big boss of the company she worked at, who had come to pay a visit at her branch! Throughout the story, Emma tries really hard not to let this bother her, and to act as though the plane incident never happened, but Jack wasn’t having any of that.

Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements?

20140426-222421.jpg

I think everyone can relate to this photo. At some point in everyone’s life they get the toughest decision whether they should keep trying or just walk away. I’ve been in this situation many times, and it never gets any easier.

You try to weigh up the pros and cons in your head over and over but it never helps. You get back to that same moment where you have to decide perhaps not what you want, but what’s best. So many things go through your head that contradict each other, like “what If I give up when things were just about to get better/perfect?”, or “what if I hold on and I get pushed away and hurt even more?” Continue reading
