“Brow Zings”: My Complete Godsend

I hate my eyebrows. Like, actually hate them.

I always have and unfortunately I didn’t exactly help the situation…

When I was younger I had quiet dark bushy eyebrows. I never had a mono brow, just lots of hair each side that looked pretty scruffy. Obviously it didn’t bother me when I was little, but when I became a teenager it became an issue for me.

I had started comprehensive school and I (the totally un-cool girl) had to compete against the cool girls; Known as “The Plastics”. (Unsure of what I mean? Go and watch Mean Girls! It’s a must-watch movie).

So.. one night I closed my bedroom door and decided to get the tweezers out (which I obviously borrowed from my older sister). It hurt, but it felt great. I plucked and plucked away until I had thin eyebrows just like all the other girls. I loved it! The thing is, I didn’t even realise back then that ‘shape’ mattered. I thought as long as they were thin then I was safe.

Now, lets forward 6 years..  Continue reading

“Why I write” – Guest Post by Jo

Today, I have a lovely guest post written by Jo to share with you. Here, Jo is telling us about why she writes! I hope you enjoy this post, and please head over to her lovely blog after by here!

Hello! I’m Joana Sofia (but please call me Jo) and my little corner of the Internet is called “Darling, Oh My!” And today the lovely Jenny is allowing me to guest post on her blog. So, I’ve chosen to write about the reasons why I write.01

I write to clear my head. To leave space for new characters and new stories. I write. I write because writing is easier than speaking. The words come easier to me by holding a pen or having my fingers dancing in the keyboard. I write. I write so therefore I won’t explode. With emotions. I put down in a piece of paper what’s on my mind. Good or bad. I write it down. Most of the time I don’t even realize I’m doing it. Not the action itself. But the act of letting go.

The inspiration well, that comes everywhere. Those who know me know that I get inspired by everything. In a phrase read somewhere. In glances exchanged in the middle of nowhere. In strangers walking by. In songs I heard on the radio. Those who know me know I get inspired by a quote said by someone in a television show. In stories started by others but with wide opening endings leaving up to my imagination how that story would end. But what they don’t realize, what I myself sometimes don’t even do realize, it’s that I put into those characters, those that I create, a bit of myself. A bit of my past, of my present. My dreams for the future. Words that I could say out loud. But they came so easy I only notice when it’s all together. When all the pieces are put together. When I re-read the text that’s when it hits.

So, therefore I write. I write to escape. I write to dream. I write so I can keep my sanity sane. Emotions written out, lightness in my soul.

I really enjoyed reading this post written by Jo. Not only is she sharing with us the reason she writes, but she is also inspiring us to write. Well, she has certainly inspired me anyway! 🙂 Please remember to head over to Jo’s lovely blog – http://darlingohmy.blogspot.pt/
Lastly, I would like to say thank you so much to Jo for writing such a thoughtful guest post for my blog! 🙂 xxx

“Spring fashion & beauty essentials” – Guest Post by Amy Marie

Today, I have a wonderful guest post to share with you written by Amy Marie. Here, Amy Marie is talking about her Spring Beauty Essentials and Spring Fashion Essentials! Hope you enjoy reading this post, and please head over to Amy’s blog here!

Hi everyone! My name is Amy Marie and I blog over at Cocktails in Teacups. I’ve recently come out of a bit of a bloggers slump and I decided one of the ways to prevent it happening again was to post on other blogs, just to mix it up a bit. Today the lovely Jenny is allowing me to guest post on her blog. I’ve chosen to write about my Spring Essentials in both fashion and beauty, because even though where I’m living it’s cold and foggy (joys of living at a seaside town) it is supposedly Spring and I intend to enjoy it!

Lets starts with FashionSpring Fashion Essentials

Monochrome is a key trend this season, in particular gingham. I was a big fan of tartan during the winter but I’m an even bigger fan of gingham and my wardrobe is already full of bits i’ve been collecting to embrace this trend to the max. One of my favourites and biggest bargains has been these amazing gingham print leggings from Matalan. I say leggings but they’re so much more like trousers. For starter the material is so much thicker and isn’t see through in the slightest, they have a proper waistband and a zip for fastening. I love the turn up at the ankle. And the best part? They’re £12! Yes, £12! I’ve purchased them to fly in when I go on holiday at the end of May, they’re really comfortable, fashionable and will look great with a t-shirt, brogues and my denim jacket.

This Is Why I Love Blogging…

Since becoming a blogger, I have gained so much more confidence in my writing and myself, and have felt happier in general life too.

I have always been one for writing things down. When I was younger, I would keep a diary, and I have always had a passion for writing. I started a blog last year which I updated every now and then, but I didn’t really get into it or meet other bloggers that much.

A month ago, I decided to start fresh and create a new blog to update as often as I can. I set up a separate email account and twitter account (@bigdreams1993) to go with it, to keep myself as organised as possible.why-blog-2

The moment I had created it, I loved it. Within the first night, so many other bloggers welcomed me to the blogging community, and I immediately felt at home. I honestly couldn’t believe how nice and how understanding everybody was. Since then, I have grown to learn more and more about other bloggers, do guest posts for bloggers and invite them to do guest posts for myself, and I have even worked with other bloggers on collaboration posts.

It has now been almost 4 weeks since I first started my blog, and I do not regret it at all. I have met so many amazing people, got to know more about them all, share my thoughts and views with other bloggers, and see the world from hundreds of different perspectives.

I have always been a shy, self-conscious girl – I would always be too shy to show other people my writing – but since blogging, I have came right out of my shell. I have found a place to feel calm, welcome and most importantly be myself. Blogging has already given me many opportunities to further my writing career, and each day throws new opportunities at me.

This is why I love blogging 🙂

Why I will watch a TV series more than once..

When I enjoy programmes, I like to re-watch them. I am currently watching the whole 6 seasons of Gossip Girl for the third time, and I still love it as much as I did the first time. I have watched some seasons of 90210 twice, and I have re watched programmes such as The Inbetweeners and The IT Crowd several times.

You’re probably wondering why I’m sharing such a random fact with you.. tv

Lately, when I have told people I am re-watching Gossip Girl, they seem to be surprised, yet confused at the same time. I get asked, “why are you watching them again when you’ve already seen them before?”, to which I respond, “because I enjoy it”. When the first person asked me this, I thought perhaps it’s because they aren’t a fan of the show, but then over time more and more people would ask the same thing.
